headcanon: nepeta has low self-esteem. she feels like she can’t show it because she has to keep equius in good shape and be cheery for her friends, and she roleplays a lot because it’s an excuse to be someone else for a while.

she came up with the idea of representing your self esteem as a person who you don’t want to disappoint, which she shared with tavros while they were commiserating about it.
